History of the World of Lineage/Prelude
Previous sections skipped...
We remember that year — a year shortly before the start of a new century — the first year of the Age of Chaos. It seemed this year was no different from the many others recorded in history, a "prelude" to the misfortune that came and happened before us. We could not prepare and did not know what to expect.
In Aden, the kingdom of the Human, the priests of the god of light gathered in the majestic Temple of Oren. Each of them said he had seen a sinister future in a nightmare. Some claimed it was a revelation from the gods, others that it was a delusion sent by evil spirits, but they were all frightened by the same thing — a sense of helplessness. To overcome this feeling, the Council decided to restore the trust between the races that had been destroyed long ago, and sent an envoy to each of the supreme rulers of the races.
In the forest glittering with emerald light, the Elf were horrified to learn that the Mother Tree, the mother of all forests, had begun to die. The beautiful forest folk, lifting the veil that had long hidden them along their borders, sent many young elves to the kingdom of men to find a way to save the great tree.
Clearly, they found this out too late. There was no doubt: some of the Dark Elf already knew the truth that before could only be spoken in a whisper, the secret surrounding their goddess. As soon as the human priests gathered in Oren Castle, the looks on their faces said it all — they had already received a revelation that said: "The Hour of Darkness is coming."
The fearless Orc didn't worry much about the coming winter, not knowing that after this winter spring would never come again. Pa'agrio, lord of the Kakai orcs, sent his messengers to unite the orcs, who had scattered on the eve of the Eternal Winter.
It's unclear what the Dwarf were doing all this time. There were those who thought they simply carried on with their business, with no idea of the situation. But that would be a mockery of their business sense. This is only a guess, but the people of the earth, who hold the forgotten knowledge of the titans, dug up the Tablet of Maphr, which had hidden traces of an ancient civilization for thousands of years, and probably studied the basics of absolute geometry.
Now, in the year of the "prelude", no one will remember the names of the brave warriors of each people who joined forces. Though enemies to one another, they fought bravely, standing against the despair that washed over them. These heroes won many small victories in the struggle, even when broken by the foreboding of the grim fate that awaited them.
