NPC

A non-player character (Non Playable Character, NPC) is a character controlled by the program.

In Lineage, this term usually refers to characters that are friendly or neutral to the player, while hostile ones are more often called monsters or "mobs".

Non-player characters serve both as a tool for creating the game's atmosphere (townsfolk in cities, animals in the wild) and for story purposes (in quests).
