Items: General Information

With the introduction of the Gracia - Part 1 expansion, 5 different types of equipment items can be seen in Lineage II. The type of a weapon or armor is not the same as its Grade.

Contents

1. Common items

Common weapons, armor and accessories are sold in shops and can be obtained as drops from ordinary monsters. These items can't be enchanted, augmented or boosted with special abilities. A common weapon can be turned into a special Kamael weapon or made into dual swords. Common armor can't be assembled into a set. Common items of grades D and C can be bought in the Armor, Weapon and Accessory Shops in all towns (the selection may vary between towns). Common items of grade B and higher can be obtained as drops from monsters.

2. Shadow items

Shadow weapons and accessories can be obtained by completing quests, taking part in events, or bought in shops. Shadow items can't be enchanted, augmented or boosted with special abilities, and they disappear after some time. The item's duration only counts while it's equipped on the character; the exception is accessories bought for Olympiad Token. Talismans and some accessories from the Game Shop are also Shadow items. Shadow weapons can be bought in the Weapon Shops in Giran and Aden.

3. Normal items

Normal weapons, armor and accessories can be crafted by Dwarves or obtained as drops from Raid Bosses. These items can be enchanted, augmented or boosted with special abilities. If a Dwarf is lucky enough to craft 2 items from one set of resources, they'll be normal items. Normal items of grades D and C can be bought in the Armor, Weapon and Accessory Shops in all towns (the selection may vary between towns) and obtained as drops from monsters. Low-quality normal items of grades B and A can be bought in Giran at the Luxury Shop and obtained as drops from monsters; high-quality items of grade B and higher can only be obtained as drops from monsters.

4. Rare items

Sometimes, when Dwarves craft armor, weapons or accessories, they get rare items. These items can't be used until they're treated with a special compound by the Blacksmith of Mammon. After treatment they become masterwork items.

5. Masterwork items

After treatment by the Blacksmith of Mammon, Rare items become masterwork items. Weapons and armor gain extra stats. Masterwork items can be enchanted, augmented or boosted with special abilities.

Item grades

All weapons and armor in Lineage II have a grade, from the lowest "No Grade" to the highest "S84 Grade". A character must be of a certain level and have the passive skill "Expertise" of the corresponding grade. You can use equipment of a higher grade, but you'll get a penalty.

Penalty for wearing items of the wrong grade

With the introduction of the Gracia Final expansion, the penalty system for wearing items of an unsuitable grade was changed.

  1. The penalty effect increases in proportion to the difference between the character's level and the items' grade.
  2. If a level 20 character uses a C-grade item, they get a level 1 penalty; if a level 20 character uses a B-grade item, they get a level 2 penalty;
Level 1 penalty: Accuracy is reduced by 16, critical rate and damage are reduced by 10%, attack power and speed are reduced by 10%, and the chance of a failed spell cast goes up.
Level 2 penalty: Accuracy is reduced by 16, critical rate and damage are reduced by 20%, attack power and speed are reduced by 10%, and the chance of a failed spell cast goes up.
Level 3 penalty: Accuracy is reduced by 16, critical rate and damage are reduced by 30%, attack power and speed are reduced by 10%, and the chance of a failed spell cast goes up.
Level 4 penalty: Accuracy is reduced by 16, critical rate and damage are reduced by 40%, attack power and speed are reduced by 10%, and the chance of a failed spell cast goes up.

If the difference is more than 4 grades, a level 4 penalty is applied.
