Original event text from the game's website

Giant's Ruins had long been known for producing some erratic and mind altering vegitation. While used by the local residents in ceremonies and other rigts of passage events, the means of producing this hallucinogenic substance was a time honored secret, passed down from generation to generation. On one of his exepeditions to the area, renowned Botanist Dierre Baquette was allowed to experience a native ceremony commemorating the birth of a tribesmans's son. His life was never the same after that.

Since then, Dierre has spent the last 10 years researching and experimenting with local plant life, trying to reproduce the effects of what these native people referred to as the Spirit Leaven. Although no one knows for sure what happened to this brilliant man, it is rumored that he was actually able to partially recreate the substance prior to vanishing. Baguette knew the strain he had created was imperfect. Test case after test case proved that when used on the human-type races, the hallucination effect would not last for more than 24 hours (31 muwaha - Kinslon).

His recently discovered memoirs reflect the stress and frustration of these long, lonely years. Towards the end, his writings show a distinct departure from reality, as he started to use himself as a test subject for his latest experiments. It is said that right before his disappearance, he took his best formula and massed produced it. In his final entries, Baguette alludes to his nefarious intent to dump the formula in the Aden water supply. The very last page of his diary held only two words April lst.

Translation

The Ruins of the Giants have long been known for their wondrous, mind-altering plants. Although the natives use these plants in ceremonies and other events, the methods of making hallucinogenic substances have always been a secret passed down from generation to generation. During one of his expeditions to the area, the famous botanist Dier Baguette was allowed by the natives to take part in a ceremony celebrating the birthday of a native's son. That event changed his whole life.

Dier has since spent 10 years studying the local plants and experimenting, trying to reproduce the effect the locals call "Spirit Leaven" (something like "the departing spirit"). And although no one knows for sure what happened to this remarkable man, rumor has it that he did manage to partly reproduce the substances he was after before he disappeared. Baguette knew the version he had made was imperfect. Experiment after experiment showed that, when used on humanoid races, the hallucinogenic effect lasted no more than 24 hours.

His recently found memoirs reflect the strain and frustration of those long, lonely years. Toward the end, the notes speak of his complete break from reality, as he begins using himself as the test subject in his latest experiments. It's said that right before he disappeared, he took his best formula and reproduced it in large quantities. Baguette hints at his vile intention to dump the substances into Aden's drinking water sources. The last page of the diary contains only two words: April First.
