 Sea of Spores

Monsters

Description

View of Sea of Spores
Sea of Spores

Few haven't run in there while doing quests for the Hunters' Guild or clearing their PK count, among other things. Huge roots hang overhead and vanish somewhere into the depths of an acrid fog that's hard to breathe. Giant mushrooms and countless spores make this place unsuitable for almost any form of life. Huge spiders try to sting you, and their venom is deadly for many, so you need to be careful. In the most inaccessible spot of this sea hides a creature for which this is the best habitat of all.

Orfen's Lair

The creature is called Orfen; many venomous spiders guard its rest, and its lair is wrapped on all sides in sticky, vile webs. One consolation: this creature can't leave Sea of Spores; great magic protects the world from the spread of this plague, keeping it inside a magically sealed perimeter.

This monster is striking not only for its looks but for its history. She is Aracna, a higher spider-like being who was a friend of Human and Elf, but now attacks everyone she crosses paths with and tries to lure them into her web. She isn't easy to kill, and it takes many brave heroes to challenge her. When Orfen wakes up, she roams the whole Sea of Spores; once you start hitting her, she may fly off to her lair in the center, or she may not — it's a matter of luck. In the lair she's harder to kill, but it can still be done.

So how did this place come about, and why does Orfen hate Humans and Elves so much? Once there was a giant forest of mushroom plantations here. But it was disfigured by magical energy released long ago, during a terrible war.

This place became a brutal battlefield where Elves and Humans fought for dominance over the continent, but it was turned to ruins by powerful forbidden magic used by the Elves. As a result of the concentration of an enormous amount of magical energy, the existing ecosystem was destroyed and became a "rotting swamp". Spores spewed by the swamp began to spread to neighboring areas. To prevent and stop the spread of this "rotting swamp", the wizards of Ivory Tower set up a tower with a protective magic field.

This war didn't pass without a trace, and the remains of the battle can still be seen. Towers with a protective magic field prevent the swamp from spreading further and are maintained by the wizards of Ivory Tower. Around this area you can find places — the Elves' Great Trees, the Cruma fields, etc. — where mushroom plantations still bear fruit.

All in all, the place resembles a white desert, cold and beautiful at the same time. White spores fall from the sky like snowflakes, creating a quiet, peaceful atmosphere… if not for Orfen...

Trying to stop the war between Humans and Elves, Orfen was gravely wounded, caught in a trap in a fierce battle. She then fell into a deep sleep for several hundred years.

When she awoke and saw the battle-ravaged place that had once been a beautiful forest, she grew enraged and began attacking Humans and Elves in the nearby areas indiscriminately.

Then the wizards of Ivory Tower gathered to stop her mad attacks; she retreated and hid in the Sea of Spores to heal and regain her strength.

Orfen's older sister, Nerupa, claims that Orfen behaves so terribly because of the toxins of the "rotting swamp" that have destroyed her brain.

Orfen's goal is to destroy Humans and Elves; she dreams of drinking all their blood and wrapping the whole world in long, thin threads of web. Even now she's weaving the "threads of the future" to make her terrible dream come true.

Belmont, the high mage of Ivory Tower, was sent to Town of Oren to lead the four wizards who control and maintain the magic barrier preventing the Sea of Spores from spreading. He's constantly gathering information about the "rotting swamp". Thanks to the efforts of these mages, who keep the Sea of Spores and its mistress in check, the world of Aden can sleep in peace.
